HCPC consults on annual registration fees

The Health and Care Professions Council is consulting on a proposed increase to its annual registration fee, with changes potentially introduced from 2027.

What’s happened 

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) has launched a consultation on a proposed increase to its annual registration fee. 

The proposal would see the fee rise by £5.06 per year (approximately 4.1%), bringing the total annual fee to £128.40. If approved, the increase would be introduced from April 2027, subject to parliamentary approval, and phased in between 2027 and 2029 in line with different professions’ renewal cycles. 

The HCPC says the proposed change reflects rising operational costs and the need to remain financially sustainable, while continuing to meet its statutory role in protecting the public and improving its services. It also acknowledges the ongoing cost-of-living pressures facing registrants. 

The regulator has confirmed that it would maintain the existing 50% discount for newly registered graduates during their first two years on the register. 

Why this matters to members 

Podiatry is one of the professions regulated by the HCPC. Maintaining registration, including payment of the annual fee, is a requirement for practising as a podiatrist in the UK. 

The consultation provides an opportunity for registrants to give feedback on both the proposed fee and the rationale behind it. 

The continuation of the graduate discount means early-career podiatrists would still benefit from reduced fees during their first two years of practice. 

What happens next 

The consultation opened on Tuesday 28 April and will close on 17 July 2026. 

The HCPC will review responses before making a final decision on whether to implement the proposed increase.
