Representatives from the Royal College of Podiatry and Bupa met in January to discuss fee structures, service coverage and operational processes affecting podiatrists recognised by the insurer.

What’s happened

On 16 January 2026, representatives from the Royal College of Podiatry met with Bupa UK Insurance to discuss areas of ongoing collaboration relating to podiatry services.

The meeting covered fee structures, service expansion, practice recognition and treatment authorisation processes.

Bupa confirmed that fees for initial and follow-up podiatry appointments were increased in August 2024, and that a review of terms and conditions is planned to ensure clarity.

The College raised the potential for expanded coverage relating to podiatrist-led shockwave therapy and injection therapy. Bupa confirmed that these treatments are not currently covered within standard customer policies when delivered by podiatrists.

Practice accreditation and simplification of authorisation codes were also discussed. Further discussions between the parties are expected later in 2026.

What to be aware of

The discussions form part of ongoing engagement between the College and Bupa. No changes to service coverage or recognition arrangements were confirmed at this meeting.
